CUSP/Stop BSI

The STOP BSI Collaborative is an exciting opportunity for Greater Kansas City and Northwest Missouri hospitals to partner with patient safety experts at Johns Hopkins University to reduce Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections, also known as CLABSIs and/or BSIs. Three years ago, researchers from Johns Hopkins developed an evidence-based program, the Comprehensive Unit-Based Safety Program (CUSP), to evaluate and improve patient safety in hospitals of all sizes and levels of complexity. Since then, CUSP has been tested in over 200 hospitals across the country, and has led to unparalleled reductions in CLABSIs but also improvements in other areas of patient safety. See more.

The Missouri Safe Surgery - Saves Lives DASH!

The goal of the Missouri Safe Surgery Saves Lives DASH was to improve the safety of surgical care in Missouri by testing the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist by July 1. This checklist has been shown to improve compliance with standards and decrease complications and mortality from surgery. The MOCPS congratulates the 62 Missouri hospitals that took the challenge and participated in the DASH by testing, rolling out or fully implementing the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. See more.

Missouri Just Culture Collaborative

The project called the Missouri Just Culture Collaborative and was formed in 1997. Involving 67 health organizations, the project united hospitals and other health care providers with regulatory agencies in an effort to increase understanding of why medical errors happen and how to prevent them. Just Culture training was provided to approximately 4,000 health care professionals. See more.

Banding Together

“Banding Together – for patient safety” was kicked off in March, 2007 following the work of the Missouri Center for Patient Safety’s (MOCPS) 16-member Colored Wristband Work Group. The Work Group assessed findings of a survey of Missouri hospitals and nursing homes about how colored wristbands were being used. The Group also assessed other state’s activities to standardize colored wristbands. See more.
